Out of civic pride we decided to do a blog piece on the fantastic producers and parties in Sheffield. Once we’d started we realised that it was going to need to be in two parts as we had loads we wanted to waffle about. So here’s the second part focusing on the clubs and parties that are helping to put Sheffield back on t’map.
Like all cities Sheffield has had its high and low points in terms of club nights down the years. Most people in the know seem to agree that the Steel City is going through a purple patch at present.
The likes of Kabal have been putting on superb parties for over 10 years and are still going strong today. Other established parties such as Cargo and Collect have gone from strength to strength and are regularly bringing some of the worlds biggest names to Sheffield. The more established nights are being complimented by an an influx of new parties that all offer something slightly different to each other. The end result is fantastic house/techno DJ’s pretty much every weekend in Sheffield and a scene as healthy as it has been in years
We’ve picked out a few highlights from the next few months below…
Collect have been putting quality Techno/House parties on since 2009. Their fantastic former home Dirty Little Secret saw the likes of Funk D’Void, Mano Le Tough, Alex Jones, Glimpse, Audiojack, Oliver Ho, Dave Angel and Dense & Pika entertain the masses. Their next party is arguably one of the biggest parties Sheffield has seen in a long while. Dixon, Apollonia, Stephan Bodzin and Kris Wadsworth play at the 02 Academy as part of their Collect Weekender. Facebook event HERE. Collect resident Leeroy Powell AKA Sir Vinyl Instinct also runs the Itchy Pig empire. With a superb Record Label, P.R company and D.J agency among others under the ever growing Itchy umbrella.
Cargo are another established night who, in their own words, struggled through Sheffield’s lows and came out of the other side to host huge capacity parties with the likes of DJ Sneak and Kerri Chandler. It isn’t just the stellar names that make Cargos parties special, they have superb residents in Growmore who understand the importance of a proper warm up. Their next doo sees Kerri Chandler come to Fez on August Bank Holiday Sunday, check the event HERE
These established nights have been joined over the last few years by fantastic new parties from the likes of De:Bug and Ryad. There’s a little video below from their recent roadblock collab at Tramlines that featured Timmy P, Alex Arnout, Jeremy Underground Paris and Brawther.
Seminal are a new name on the scene in Sheffield. If you call your night Seminal you need to back it up with guests of a certain caliber. They’ve done just that by booking the legend that is Nicky Siano for their first party at Fez Club on 31st August. Check the event HERE. Chris Duckenfield, huddle and lots of other local talent will be on hand to offer support. With Derrick Carter and Rahaan booked in for the next part in November in Nottingham the nights more than living up to its Seminal name.
Lo Sheas Hope Works has big plans for the Autumn term with Ben Klock on in October and some pretty huge plans for the rest of the year too. With Chris Duckenfield on board as a resident its easy to see why Hope Works is proving to be one of Sheffields hottest new venues.
Check the event for Ben Klock HERE.
Join The Dots have Mad Mats (Gamm/Local Talk) over on the 23rd August at The Harley. He’s easily one of the best DJ’s we’ve ever seen in the flesh and if you’re in Sheffield you need to get down and support the party. Check his new mix below
There’s tons more parties in Sheffield worth checking out, way too many to list here, but the likes of Party For The People, Ohm Sweet Ohm,Dalen Light, Secret Soiree and lots of others are flying the flag for quality house and techno and are all well worth checking out.
